Yee-haw, it's a party, party, party!

Here are the pictures from Emmet, Eden & Eliza's birthday party the end of October.  We were able to have all our family over on a Sunday afternoon for cake, ice cream and a light supper.  But first, in order to have a party, you have to have cake.  And in order to have cake, you have to bake it and frost it.  So, here we are frosting the cakes.  The kiddos all LOVE to help with this aspect.

Emmet had a chocolate cowboy hat!

The girls had a pink cowgirl boot and a purple cowgirl boot.

The finished products!

The birthday trio!  Emmet is now 9 and the girls are now 7!

You have to include older brother Ephraim in one picture!

And another picture with cousins Garret & Alyssa.

Oh, and a picture with mom & dad.  We will get a chance to eat that cake yet!

Finally, time for candles:

We enjoyed some delicious cake and ice cream.

Then it was time for some presents.

Emmet got a whittling kit from my parents, a Bible case from Seth's parents, Playmobil from DeBruins and money from Beerends.   All were great gifts for him!

Eliza got an outfit and shirt from my parents, a layered skirt and doll skirt made by Donna from Seth's parents, Legos from DeBruins and money from the Beerends.  Eliza has enjoyed each of her gifts!

Eden got an outfit and shirt from my parents, a layered skirt and doll skirt made by Donna from Seth's parents, Legos from DeBruins and money from the Beerends.  All are appreciated and she loved the gifts!

Eden is modeling one of the shirts.  It says "Watch and Learn Boys   Farm Girl"

Emmet was eager to start using his whittling kit.  Here is his first project that came with the kit, a leaf!  He's really enjoying this gift and has asked for more blocks of wood for Christmas :)

We enjoyed some time outdoors and then had supper with our family.  It was a good time of fellowship and we enjoyed hosting our families while celebrating 3 special birthdays!

Randomness of September & October

This is going to be a quick post because it is old and random . . .

We had a couple friends spend the night so we had fun making playdough, introducing them to the chickens, playing in the sandpile (below) and digging up our carrots.

Eliza is demonstrating how to use the egg scale.

Making applesauce.  A lot of it.  But still only about half as much as last year because it wasn't a booming apple year.

I'm pretty sure this is how I spent the first part of my Labor Day weekend, making applesauce, and I'm just fine with that.  In fact, it was great to have this project done.

Fresh cantaloupe from the garden and it was delicious.  We had a couple plants and only got a couple fruit, but it was still worth it.

I took a lot of our tomatoes and turned them into pizza sauce.  I made twice as much as last year so hopefully I now have a year's supply.

We grew several pie pumpkin plants this year and made them into pumpkin puree.  Now I can use them for muffins, bread, pie or other desserts!

Eliza had her face painted our our church's Ministry Fair.

I had a table at the Ministry Fair with all the missionary info and global missions info.

Torrential rains!

BEEF!  Yahoo!

We enjoyed a Saturday night supper and then a Sunday lunch with one of our missionaries from India.  What a blessing to be able to meet with him, learn about his ministry and the kids enjoyed meeting him and received a couple pieces of Indian money.

Salsa made from more of my tomatoes.

She can be part monkey!

Eliza just keeps losing more teeth!

Eliza was ready to upgrade to a bigger bike!  I'm so thankful that we can find decent bikes for kiddos at the thrift store for $5!  And this one was purple, so that's a bonus!

Stylin' with her "new" bike, shorts and mud boots.

Stop!  There's a praying mantis in the driveway!

Praying mantis rescue underway.  He was safely delivered to a location where he won't get squished.

Setting some new posts for the cattle waterer pad of cement.

We were invited to a 60th birthday party for a former co-worker of mine.  We had a lovely time.

The kiddos and I took part in a cattle operation tour that was held at 3 different locations in Monroe, Mahaska and Marion counties.  We all enjoyed seeing the different operations and their barns.  Grandpa Harold was able to join us, too.

Look who turned 90!  A special great-great aunt to the children.  We took some time in the afternoon to attend Aunt Jennie's 90th birthday party.  We are so thankful to be invited!

I was busy making pasta sauce from the the tomatoes in the garden that just kept producing!

On the way home from church we saw a guy on his bicycle, loaded down with belongings.  Again, convicted to help out, we came home, loaded up a bag with some simple foods and headed back.

He really needed a ride to Ottumwa, which I couldn't give him since Seth had to leave for a church meeting.  But we were able to bless him with some food.  I pray that he made it where he was going.  This was a hot October day and he wasn't always in the proper lane of traffic.  He was even walking his bike into oncoming traffic.  Eek.

Harvest has started.  Time to ride with father!

Or maybe it's time for father to ride with the children??

Got pork?  We do.  They gained weight ahead of schedule and we, along with many others, are enjoying bacon, ham and sausage!

Making cheesy bread for supper!

Our science curriculum is birds this year.  We needed a bird craft and I found this bird cage craft on Pinterset.  Eden thought it doubled as a bird cage crown!

We did the bird cages and also printed out some bird finger puppets.

A quick trip to the doctor for an ear infection.  Looks like I've got a cowboy, a girl with mudboots and one in her pjs.  That's just how we roll some days.

While the girls are riding in the combine, the boys are catching grasshoppers . . . .  to take home to the chickens :)

An afternoon of building fence for the cows.

Our new favorite game, borrowed from the homeschool library, is 10 Days in the USA.  There's also a version for Africa, Americas and Europe.  All are equally fun and we've been playing multiple times a day.

The girls were laughing and laughing as they tried to come each other's hair.

The boys were enjoying an afternoon of 4wheeling with some church friends so the girls and I headed to my parents' house so I could continue working on my tshirt quilt.

A hands-on lesson at Seekers N Sneakers on a Sunday night at church.  The lesson was on temptation.

Playing in the park while we wait for the van to get an oil change.

I made Egg Casserole for my Supper Swapper exchange in October.

That's our randomness from September and October.
