Picture of the Day, Feb 20-26

Sunday, February 20, 2011

This is the supper time devotional I'm using with the kids right now. All the lessons are animal related, which works well for the kids right now. And an animal behavior or characteristic is related to a godly virtue for the lesson, too.

Boring picture, I know, but it is my notes from the school reorganization meeting I went to. I want to be an informed parent, so I guess that means going to a few school meetings. Just enough meetings to be informed, but not enough to get volunteered for anything.

And one more meeting this week--children's ministries at church.

And my Compassion International child from Rwanda. Mukashyaka has been my Compassion child for YEARS now. In fact, she's 19 and I've had her for at least 10.

If you look close, there's a guy hanging out of the top window of the barn. That's either Ezra or Ray, the Amish who put new windows in the barn. The pick up belongs to their driver. I'll post the story about our visit later.

Burning trash dad's way is much better than burning trash mom's way. In the 2nd picture you can see Seth pouring on the diesel and the boys cheering him on.

Cow-town Cuties

Saturday afternoon we took off for Seth's parents' place and did some things on the farm together.

Love this picture! Ready to work. Ephraim, Emmet, Grandpa, Eden, Seth & Eliza.

She's still happy in this picture. It's when we first got to the cattle lot.

Checking things out.

Emmet :)

Emmet and Eliza on the fence.

Ephraim on the tractor that where Seth & Grandpa were changing filters.

And here comes brother!

And now it's Eliza's turn! And she was excited. (Warning: there are several pictures of Eliza!)

What's with the tongue sticking out to the side? Must be concentrating!

Two boys searching for the kittens.

"I want to go inside."

I wonder what he's thinking?

Ephraim and the cat!

Take a seat!

Emmet & Eliza

Bein' goofy!

"Are you pushin' or pullin?" Basically, the fixin' on the tractor didn't work and it still wouldn't budge. So, it needed to be pulled out of place so the calves could get their shots.

Eliza wanted to be helping with whatever was going on. And Eden's still whining to go inside!

Trying hard to reach that wire so she can tighten it like Grandpa!
By now, Eden's in an out-and-out tantrum about going inside, which isn't helping keep the cattle calm by any means!

We had to stand off to the side while the calves got their shots. Eliza found the gears and chains to play with. Funny how we have these here and so does the Science Center!

They guys eventually got their work done, even with 4 tag-a-longs, well 5 if you count me!

Pictures of the Week

Another week done!

We spent some time with Seth's grandparents on Sunday afternoon with Seth's immediate family. It was their 63rd anniversary! We had a nice visit and then went to Wendy's for supper. It was there that I ran into my high school P.E. teacher, Mr. Hazelton.

This is the simple, but cute Valentines' we made for the Grandparents and Great-Grandparents. Again, another idea from Family Fun Magazine.

Finish one book and start another. Reading seems to be something I've just picked up again in the last 8-12 months. Must be that the kids are getting a bit older, because it's not that I don't have things to do! I prefer to read true stories. I finished "Tobias of the Amish" by Ervin Stutzman. It's a good book about the author's father who he never knew. Tobias was an entrepreneur who went into some debt with is bright ideas. They ended up in Kalona and he was killed in a car accident shortly after he bought the car.
And then I've been wanting to read Mary Beth Chapman's book "Choosing to See." It's a powerful book about their journey with God through the death of their 5-year old daughter. Check it out from your library!

My sister-in-law and I are on a bit of a genealogy kick again and we've been searching from some of Grandpa Elmer's great-uncles. And every time we think we have a piece of the puzzle solved, we find another mystery.

Ugh. It's time to clean the bathroom. But as long as the girls have a spray bottle in their hand, they're fine with helping. If only I could remember which two cleaning agents should not be used together because they are toxic. . . .

13 boxes of cereal for $14. Not the best price I've gotten for cereal but certainly better than the retail price of $3.50 to $4.00 a box and still a better price than store brand cereal!

Seth had some projects to complete at his parents' house, so the whole family tagged along! Here are the kids patiently waiting for it to be vaccination time for the calves.

If you're happy and you know it . . .

The kids sang in church on Sunday, the 13th. They sang the popular song "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands." And it was a joy to hear the congregation sing with them a second time.

"If you're happy and you know it, shout 'Amen'!" "Amen!"

And the 2nd service group!
That's a lot of kids ages 3-7!

63 years together!

We celebrated with Seth's Grandparents, their 63rd wedding anniversary.
Paul, Seth and Michelle with Grandpa and Grandma.

Ephraim, Emmet, John, Mark, Eden & Eliza with their Great-Grandparents.
Wow! 63 years.
