Sweet corn is planted

We were able to get some sweet corn in the ground, finally.  The girls were a big help in getting the seeds in the ground and covered up. We'll all appreciate this in about 80 days!

Beans are planted

We had a very narrow window in which to get our beans planted.  The conditions still were not ideal, but we got it done on Monday with two tractors, a bean drill, and a planter.  There was also a crew on the side filling the planter boxes every hour.

We had a minor breakdown but with three trips to town for parts and the machine was moving again.

The beans were in the ground with no time to spare.  Four tenths of rain came just hours after we left the field.  Now we wait for the crop to grow and the weeds to die.

Red Rock water levels

We took a Sunday afternoon drive to Red Rock Lake to check out the water levels and to see the top gates open.  It was an impressive sight.  This side of the lake was busy with many onlookers and it was a beautiful afternoon.  We also had a better understanding of the dam after taking a tour in the dam last year with our home school group.

And a couple photos of our Dam tour in October.

Fair animals

Our county fair will be here in 6 weeks so we've been busy getting our animals out and walking them around.  This year the kids are showing cattle, chickens, pigs, goats, and rabbits!

Fencing work

We put in a new line of temporary fence at our cattle pasture.  This will allow for some rotational grazing. With our crew, it didn't take long to pound posts and string the wire.  The ground is quite saturated with all the rain we've been having.  We were thankful for the sunshine to get this job done.

Sewing Jumpers

The girls wanted to sew something to enter at the fair.  We found a simple jumper pattern online that could be downloaded for a small price and we got to work.  They picked out their fabric at Hobby Lobby.  They'll show these at the Fashion Revue event prior to the fair and then enter them in the Sewing division at the fair.
They learned how to do buttonholes and perfect their topstitching skills.  They did a great job and they fit perfect!
