Cadet races

The boys have enjoyed Cadets at church and the culmination of the Cadet season is their pinewood derby car races.  Both boys did their own design and work on their cars.  Here are some race pictures from our church races.

Emmet's car is on the right.

He won this race.

Another race with Emmet's car, on the left this time.

Ephraim's car is on the left.

Ephraim won his race as well.

This is a large group of Cadets.

Ephraim's car got 3rd place Best of Show.  It was a cop car.

For speed, Ephraim' got first place.

Emmet and his car that he worked hard on.

The next Saturday we had Cadet O Rama, an event with all the Cadet groups in our area.
The boys submitted their axemanship project for a ribbon and received a blue.

Emmet with his blue ribbon for axemanship--making tent pegs.

Then it was time for the races.  The boys each raced 4 times and did well, but weren't the fastest.  Emmet's car is in the middle.

The boys always have a good time designing, making and then racing their cars.  They know that they did their best on their car even if they don't win.  It is also neat to see how their cars get better and more detailed as they grow older.

February Events

February started off with the Iowa Caucus and we were in a packed community center with three townships.

My children were there to experience the process but they found some friends to play with.

We spent some time studying the Tuskegee Airmen and did a lapbook on them.

4-H poultry workshop.

Every so often Seth has to preach at a local assisted living home.  The kids play bells and Seth gives the message.

After our tax appointment we made a stop at Theisen's and this was the highlight for the kids--sitting in the go-carts.

This is a game we checked out from our homeschool office--Take Off.  A great geography game where you learn location and flags.

Yummy brownies!

4-wheelin' through the snow!

And getting stuck in the snow.

The boys are learning how to have a bank account and manage a cow/calf herd.

Awwww.

January Events

Cold days or evenings will often find us playing a game.  One of our favorites is Ticket to Ride.  It is a great game of strategy, geography and math.

We've also enjoyed some puzzle time.  I got this puzzle as a present and it has a different picture on each side.

This was a fun puzzle I found at the thrift store for $1.  It barely fit on the card table.

We enjoyed one afternoon of bowling with our homeschool group.

The girls bowled with some other girls their age.

The boys bowled with some other boys their age and had fun.

Another fun puzzle from the thrift store for $1.

This picture is upside down, but you get the idea.  A neighbor's co-worker had some clothes for my kids so we took what we could use and passed the rest on to other friends.

Another Sole Hope party.

Another fun game--10 Days in Europe!

Eden was helping me make Baked Pork Tenderloins.

Another evening of Ticket to Ride.

We attended a local event to hear Rick Santorum talk about he future of our country.

Oh dear, this rooster's been a little naughty so he has an appointment with the butcher.  He's in the freezer now.

Lots of colorful eggs are coming from the batch of chicks we received last August.  Several blues, white and all shades of brown.

"Emmet did it."  So she says.  . . .
