Day 4 found us up and ready to drive (a few blocks) to the City Museum. We've been enjoying a huge breakfast at our hotel (waffles, biscuits & gravy, sausage, cereal, doughnuts, etc).
We were one of the first to arrive at the City Museum just a few minutes before it opened at 9. We got the closest parking spot! The City Museum is a large warehouse that has been transformed into a 10-story play area. Yes, a bit overwhelming. Actually, the first 3-4 floors are for kids the ages of ours and the other floors are more for tweens and up.
Emmet and Eliza by a giant whale sculpture.
Eden, waiting on the boys.
Eliza.
There are caves and tunnels everywhere. You don't really know where you're going to end up!
Enjoying the beluga ride :)
The nice thing about this museum is that everything can be climbed on, if you're willing or not afraid.
There are also an array of tunnels and paths made out of rebar--suspended in the air. The girls were not really thrilled with the tunnels. Here is Seth and Emmet coming back down a path. The rebar is a bit hard on the knees!
A fun slide!
I Spy an Eden, Eliza, Emmet and Ephraim!
There is a tunnel of welded metal that leads to an airplane suspended three stories in the air. That's Ephraim in the pilot's seat and Emmet's ready to enter the airplane. Emmet came down after that. Seth and Ephraim explored the heights a bit more. Like Seth said, it's like someone went to the scrap yard, welded it all together and called it art :)
Also inside the City Museum was a World Aquarium. I'm not sure it was all I thought it would be, but the boys enjoyed it. And I had a coupon for them to get a free shark tooth (although I am questioning the authenticity of it).
A tunnel under the shark tank.
Ephraim by the Wobbegong shark.
Ephraim trying on old scuba gear.
Eliza.

Also in the museum is a huge bank vault . . .
. . . a hamster wheel for people . . .
. . . a skateboard park without the skateboards. . . .
. . . and a three story slide. Ask Seth about standing in line with Eliza for the slide :) They were in line, had been waiting about 15 minutes or so, and of course, Eliza has to go potty just as her turn comes up. They get out of line for the bathroom. . . she doesn't go . . .and by now the line for the slide is even longer. So, they don't go down the slide because we were getting ready to go and she starts screaming!
Since the website indicated that there was no food or drink allowed in, we decided to eat at the restaurant in the museum. We ordered a large pizza. Guess who ate it? Seth and I. The kids wouldn't touch it. We put the rest on a paper plate and took it to the van to have for supper. Needless to say, by the time we left the museum at 2, the kids were overstimulated and HUNGRY.
We make our way to the hotel for some down time. We rest, eat and are ready to go again. We took the kids to Anheuser-Busch to show them the Clydesdale horses. You can just tour the stables without seeing the brewery . . . and it's all free.

According to the tour guide, these are twin horses. Eden hears the comment and says "I'm a twin!" And then she says "Eliza's a twin, too!" It was cute.
This is the 2nd largest horse in the world. Also, this horse was in one of the Super Bowl commercials a few years back. After the tour, we enjoyed pop and pretzels.
Next stop: Union Station. It used to be quite the hub of activity but now it is a museum, retail, restaurants and a hotel.
Seth showing the boys a Big Boy Locomotive. This one is in Cheyenne, WY. We thought that maybe we'd have to go out there to actually see one this big but we didn't know that we would see a real one before we left St. Louis.

A glass elevator. Up and down. Up and down. A couple more times. Okay, let's go. Here comes security :)
A picture of half of our sweet suite. Beyond the tv is a doorway to the room with two beds, closet, sink and tv. In this room is the bathroom, sofa bed, chair, tv, fridge and microwave. For supper, we enjoyed leftovers (pizza, bologna, peanut butter & jelly). And then it was time to hit the pool for the last time.
One story about our last night at the hotel. It was 5:30 pm and we were enjoying our free snack of popcorn and pop, pretzels and chips and salsa in the lobby. Then the fire alarms start sounding. After being instructed to leave the building, we do so. We wait outside. The fire trucks show up. After about 45 minutes we're given the all clear to go inside. It was a false alarm on the 10th floor. However, the elevators are not working yet. All of a sudden, staying on the 9th floor is a lot of work. The kids did a great job, though! Up we went. After a while, we're ready to hit the pool. The elevators are still not working, so down we go on the stairs. We swim for while and find that the elevators are still not working by 7:30, so up the stairs again. It was easier the 2nd time :) Seth then offers his services to help carry luggage for the guest just now checking in. But the elevators start working. The alarms go off again at 10:30 at night. Ugh. We gather up the kids but by the time we get to the hallway, they stop going off. We are thankful that there were no other incidences after that! They did give us free cookies the next morning for the inconvenience.
