Oskaloosa has an annual Christmas lighted parade. We've only been once or twice before. I mean, it is in December when the weather can be brutal. Or it could be like it was two years ago and almost too warm. Needless to say, we went two years ago and that has been my children's only experience with the parade, until this year.
I had been watching the weather to see if attending it this year would even be a possibility and it was looking pretty good. Then there was the notice that 4-Hers were needed to ride on the 4-H float. Oh, maybe that would be a possibility. So, I let the kids vote. A little lesson in democracy here. And it was unanimous. No surprises there. They wanted to ride IN the parade. Clover Kids AND 4-Hers were invited to be in the parade which meant that all 4 children could ride.
Here we are, on December 4, ready to ride IN a parade.
We arrived early to find our float and then find a place to park. The weather was cool but nice.
The 4-Hers rode on both sides of the hayrack while a slide show presented "All that Glitters and Glows in the eyes of 4-Hers". You can see Ephraim's picture there on the left.
Eliza got to borrow a festive hat from one of the 4-H leaders.
Emmet and Eliza were on one side.
Ephraim and Eden were on the other. The 4-Hers held up silhouettes that represented various 4-H projects.
When our time to ride IN the parade was finished, we walked to where we saw some church friends watching the parade and finished watching the parade with them. And the children managed to get some candy, even at the end!
They definitely made some memories this night.
And if they had to vote again about riding IN a parade, they'd probably do it again!
