Were you there, Mom?

This is about a conversation with Ephraim this morning. We were in the van, going to get groceries. Ephraim's in the back reading his new library book on ships.

"Mom, listen to this. A ship off the coast of Alaska spilled oil in 1989."

"Yes, I remember that."

"Were you in Alaska?"

Chuckling, I say, "No, but I remember hearing about it on the news."

"Oh. Here's another one. A German warship sinks after two years in 1941."

"Oh." And I'm thinking whew, he didn't ask me if I remembered that one.

"And here's the Titanic. It sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg. . . . do you remember that one?

Nice. Real nice.

"No, Ephraim that was in 1912, nearly one hundred years ago. That's before your great-grandparents were even born."

"Oh."

Gotta love it that he's reading to me but we should start working on our dates/years.
