Halloween. Certainly not my favorite holiday. For many years we've just skipped right over it, making no mention of it and not participating. With three children having October birthdays, we've been busy birthing, partying, etc. You know. The kind of thing that takes priority. In addition to all that, our family is busy in the field harvesting and working the soil. Again, more of a priority. And then sometimes the weather isn't cooperative and it is used as an excuse to just stay home.
This year we participated a bit in the "dress-up/pretend play" part of Halloween.
You won't find this family focusing on the ghosts/vampire/witch aspect of Halloween.
Enough about values, I'll show you the pictures.
Our 2nd stop was Great-Grandpa Elmer & Great-Grandma Elizabeth's assisted living home. The bonus here is that we could go to every resident who had their door open and get a treat. Let's just say that the children's buckets were nearly full. This is so nice because we do all our trick-or-treating in one spot. The children even had a trick prepared for a few of the residents. The girls and Emmet told a joke while Ephraim recited the Old Testament books.
Showing off their buckets!
Just for fun we weighed it. Eight pounds of sugary treats. And some are my favorite (Heath & Snickers).
The fun extended into Wednesday night when we went to Grandpa Harold & Grandma Twyla's house.
The girls were dressed as fairies or princesses. I made their costumes and found the wings at Dollar Tree.
Emmet was a ball player (whew, that was an easy costume). Ephraim wanted to be a dragon/dinosaur. We found an idea in Family Fun and I think it turned out great. We used a lot of cardboard and paint but not a lot of money. Perfect. Ephraim did most of the painting and he was pleased with the result.
My dragon, fairies, ball player with a bank employee and farmer. ;p Happy Halloween, I guess.
