This is my garden. A big pond in the middle--I was saving that room for some late plantings of beans, chicken treats, etc. Not really sure when I'll be able to get that done. I have some things that still look okay, but they need some sunshine and a bit of dry weather.
That water in the background is the terrace. It holds back the water and drains it, but because the rain came so fast and the ground is so saturated, it fills up with water--thus saving the crop below the terrace. If the terrace is full then we don't need a rain gauge, we know that we got A LOT of rain.
The raging creek to the south of our house. The kids and I like to walk along the banks when it is at a trickle, which is usually most of the time. Not this month!
And then we were at Seth's parents' house. They got three inches of rain. This is the view to the south. All that water is from a crick that is usually a small stream.
And a view of their pond . . .
That's more water than I've seen in it before. And the dock is underwater! Notice the picnic table and chairs are still on the dock.
We seem to be stuck in a rainy weather pattern. But then, we still have many things to be grateful for--we don't have water in our basement, we don't live along any major river (Des Moines, Skunk, Missouri or Mississippi), and it could always be worse.
