From their mouth . . .

Eliza said, "Do I have gold in my ear?"
Me:  "Why would you think that?"
Eliza:  "Because Emmet does."
Ahh.  Yes, Emmet's ears do need a q-tip.
Me:  "No, Eliza.  That's ear wax.  Not gold."

Prior to our church's Thanksgiving service:
Me to the children:  "Do you have anything you want to say during the open mic time?"
Emmet:  "E--engaged to Joseph who is from David's family tree."
It dons on me that Emmet has just recited his line for the Christmas program in two weeks.
Me:  "No, no, Emmet.  That's your line for the Christmas program.  Tonight is the Thanksgiving service.  You need to say what you're thankful for."

Eden likes to use big words.  Words that are big and she doesn't know what they mean.  In fact, some of them, I'm not even sure where she hears them.  Not that they're bad words but we just don't go around saying "entourage" and "prototype" all the time.
Me to Eden:  "Hurry up or you're going to miss the show."
I was referring to the fact that Eden needed to get out of the van so we could watch Daddy feed cows.
Eden to me:  "It's not a show.  It's a prototype."
I just shook my head.  Later on at supper we discussed the meaning of prototype so she'll know for future use.

At supper Ephraim says the word "tooken."
Me:  "It's taken.  Tooken isn't a word."
Ephraim:  "Okay."
Eden:  "But I like the word tooken."
Ephraim:  "Tooken AIN'T a word."
Obviously, we have some work to do with proper English, but we're working on it.

It is supper time and Ephraim has just a bite or two of applesauce to finish on his plate.  I ask him to finish it, please.  He replies, "But Mom, my tastebuds are tired.  They just can't take anymore."
Nice try, buddy but it's not going to work.  Finish your plate.
