We've been mulling an idea over for a while. We raise our own beef, so let's raise our own pork, too. When the timing was right, we made a few phone calls, found some pigs to buy, set up a date to pick them up and we're in business. Literally. We have six piglets and we're not raising them all for us. We have multiple friends and family who will be buying their pork from us. We are excited about offering quality meat, directly from the farmer. In case you were wondering, our 6 pigs are mostly spoken for, but I could put you on a waiting list for the next batch, if you're interested.
Enough of that. Now for a few pictures.
I LOVE this one!
We were waiting in the barn for Seth to back up the trailer. I love the expressions. I love their clothes. The girls' hair. Everything just says "farm kids."
Waiting patiently.
The 6 of them. They are cute at this stage.
It was the kids's job to chase them from the trailer to the pen. The pigs didn't need to much provoking to get off the trailer. They're use to running free.
Checking out their new pen.
The children checking on the pigs. The pigs have a nice big pen with plenty of fresh food and water. When they get a bit bigger, they'll have some room to run outside. In the meantime, they need to get bigger than the openings in the fence. We let them out into their little outdoor pen and they walked right through the fence and into my garden! Boo.
Father and son checking surveying where the outdoor pen should be.
Welcome to your new home! The kids have named a few of the pigs, but I'm not really encouraging it. My children are fully aware of the fact that pigs are where we get our bacon and sausage. And they do know what will become of these pigs when they reach market weight in a couple of months.
