The Christmas Program literally started with Ephraim and I playing "Jesus Loves Me" on our 8-note handbells. We played the song twice for our audience. Ephraim did great! He wasn't nervous at all--and the sanctuary was packed! Next year, maybe it'll be Ephraim and Emmet playing.
First up were the First Steps kids. Eden & Eliza are in the middle in the back row--they're the oldest in their class of 2 1/2 to 4 year olds. They sang "God You Are Great!" and did a great job! Okay, well the girls didn't exactly sing a whole lot, but they were cute. They know all the words to this song, so I guess they just got nervous. Eliza looked like she was on the verge of tears and started sucking the fingernail polish off of her pretty fingers.
"Wise men traveling from afar,
Following the Christmas star.
When it stopped,
They jumped for joy.
Worshiping the baby Jesus boy."
Eden perked up for this one and participated.
Next up were the Grow Time kids-- preschool through 2nd grade. They sang "In a Stable." A cute song!

The theme for the Christmas Program was the Jesse Tree. The Jesse Tree has a scripture, devotion & ornament to help us remember God's faithfulness throughout the Bible. The 2nd-6th graders did the readings. Ephraim's first reading came from Genesis 28: 12-15. The corresponding ornament was a ladder, as shown on the screen in the upper right.

Partway through the readings, it was time for "Pharoh, Pharoh." A popular children's song--not necessarily Christmas, but it did fit in with our Jesse Tree perfectly.

While the older kids were reading, the younger kids (preschool-1st grade) were hanging up the ornaments. Here is Emmet hanging up the crown ornament--a remembrance of David as a king.

Ephraim's second reading came from Daniel 6:16-22. The familiar story of Daniel in the lion's den. I have to say that all the kids did a great job speaking into the microphone. No one talked too fast or too slow or too soft. It was great! Special thanks to Seth and Julie VU for getting the kids on and off stage in a timely manner. And to Melissa, our Children's Ministry Director for organizing all this!
