It was a P.E.T. as in Personal Energy Transportation. Also, more info here. In a nutshell, it is a three-wheeled cart/wheelchair that is powered with your arm strength. Many of the recipients have lost their legs or the use of their legs and this cart will give them new life.
From their website: "Personal Energy Transportation (PET) International seeks to reflect the love of Jesus Christ by bringing the gift of mobility and dignity to those in developing countries who are unable to walk."
There's a local group in Marion County making many of these Personal Energy Transportation devices. And now that Dad is retired, and it is winter-time, he has time to dedicate to this special project. The men get the pieces ready and then they are sent to third world countries to missionaries who help assemble them and distribute them to the needy. Cool, huh?
It works a bit like a bicycle--you pedal with your hands, which turns the chain connected to the front wheel.

Ephraim trying it out. I'm pretty sure the back area is to be used for groceries or market items to sell, but it worked well for 4-year old girls, too.

Taking on a different passenger!

And here I am giving it a try. The pavement is on a bit of an incline, and with two riders, I needed Ephraim pushing in the back. Yes, I'll admit that I don't have a lot of upper arm strength.

It was bit of tough going for Emmet so he stood up for a little extra "umph." And Ephraim gave him a push, too.

After we'd exhausted our arms with the PET, we went to the shop to shell some popcorn.
Here is Eliza twirling to pass the time.

And Eden was dancing around rambling her own story.

The popcorn kernels are coming out the bottom of the sheller into the yellow bowl.

Feeding the sheller the popcorn. Emmet's getting ready to drop one in.

Ephraim feeding the sheller.

Once you've shelled it all, it is time to clean it. Or remove the chaff. Thankfully, Dad had a cleaner, too.

The cleaned popcorn falling into the buckets, or near it. Mom & Dad don't have REAL popcorn popper so we had to wait until Sunday afternoon at home to pop it . . . and it was delicious. I think we'll be planting more next year!

Seth took it for a drive down the driveway and needed Ephraim's help on the way up.
And he's he's standing for that extra leverage, but most who receive these carts do not have the use of their legs. I'm pretty sure that the recipients will know where they can and cannot take their cart. Mostly mountainous terrain is a no-go.
This cart is for an adult, but that didn't deter Eliza from giving it a try.
